No visitor forgets Half Dome. I have never climbed the steep, cabled steps up the backside to the top, but I remember the black bears that visited my backcountry campsite nearby. The seasoned mother bear sent her cub up the trunk and out on the limb – he gave it one whack and my precious provisions became bear dinner.
